Mediation Experience
Sandy is a senior legal counsel at the Hearings & Mediation Department at the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore.
She is also a member of a team which promotes Singapore as a preferred jurisdiction (and/or arbitral seat) for the resolution of intellectual property and technology disputes, pursuant to the Singapore Intellectual Property Strategy 2030 (SIPS 2030). SIPS 2030 is Singapore’s national blueprint for IP for the current decade ending in 2030. In particular, she focuses on the promotion of Singapore as a preferred jurisdiction for the mediation of such disputes. Some of the projects she has led or participated in include engaging overseas stakeholders to increase awareness of Singapore’s dispute resolution offerings, working with local stakeholders to encourage the appropriate resolution of IP disputes, the Young IP Mediators initiative, which seeks to grow interest and experience in IP mediation among aspiring and fresh law graduates and funding schemes to promote mediation of IP disputes.
Sandy is additionally an Associate Mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre.
Career Background
Sandy joined the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) in 2009 and presently serves as hearing officer (Principal Assistant Registrar) and Senior Legal Counsel.
Prior to joining the Hearings & Mediation Department (HMD) in 2009, Sandy was working at a state department in Western Australia for two years dealing with legislation matters.
Before that, Sandy was also with IPOS, at the Registry of Trade Marks, handling registration of trade marks and the implementation of the Madrid Protocol. Now that she is in HMD, she has come back full circle.
Sandy has spoken at various events and seminars, both international and national.
Education
Sandy holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the National University of Singapore and a Masters of Laws (LLM) from the University of Western Australia.
